The bonus-malus system that the government has put in place on vehicles may be costly.
The principle was simple enough: the least polluting vehicles receive a financial bonus, the most polluting vehicles from a penalty.
Besides the fact that this system favored the smaller cars and smaller family sedan that was it, subject to a penalty, he deserves at least educate buyers on CO2 emissions.
As ever, we were assured that this mechanism is self-funded. Forecasters were surely based on sales figures, but without really believing that these incorrigible French would change their habits.
They are their costs and we also at the same time! This device works so well that sales of the least polluting cars jumped 40% while the most polluting dropped accordingly. Suddenly, the bill for the state will rise to at least 200 million euros for 2008 alone.
Bad news when we know that the boxes are empty ...
